Tapas is often translated as “discipline,” but its deeper meaning is fire—an inner heat that drives transformation. In yogic philosophy, it’s the commitment to show up, even when it’s hard. Tapas invites us to burn through old habits, stagnation, and self-doubt to create space for our highest self to emerge. This week, we begin a four-part journey into the heart of Tapas—starting with simply showing up.
Weekly Yoga Practice: Build the Fire
This week, your practice is about creating internal heat and strength.
Suggested Sequence:
5 Rounds of Sun Salutation A
Warrior II → Extended Side Angle
Chair Pose (hold for 5 breaths)
Plank Pose (3 rounds, 30 seconds each)
Tip: Focus on staying present in each pose, and notice how your breath fuels your energy.
Our mantra for the week is…
I honor the fire within me. I show up for myself today.
Our journaling prompts are…
Where in my life am I being called to show up with more consistency?
What fears or resistance arise when I commit to something?
How does my body feel after I follow through on a small promise?
And our meditation is…a breath work meditation to breathe into confidence and the discipline of staying
Sit comfortably and visualize a small flame glowing at your belly (solar plexus). With each inhale, feed the flame. With each exhale, let its warmth spread through your body. Continue for 5–7 minutes.
